Since 1999 the ensembles of Matrix Performing Arts has trained hundreds of young adults to be musicians, dancers, performers, and world class human beings. Utilizing the indoor marching percussion activity as a canvas for self-exploration and growth, young adults between the ages of 15 and 22 audition each October for a cast position in either Matrix World, Matrix Open, or Matrix A. Over the years Matrix has had members from Canada, Belgium, Japan, and throughout the United States. Once members are selected for a cast position in late October, they commit to a rehearsal and performance schedule that entails them traveling to Northeast Ohio every weekend from mid-November through mid-April, culminating at the annual Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships, in Dayton, Ohio. In the years that Matrix Performing Arts has been participating in WGI events, the Matrix World ensemble has been a World Championship finalists every year they have attended. Matrix Open has medaled in Open Class Championships in 2018 and 2019. M3, while still a new ensemble under Matrix Performing Arts, has medaled in Independent A Class Championships in 2022.

Matrix Performing Arts is a federal nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization based in Akron, OH. The Board of Directors (BOD), Administration, Designers, and Educational Staff are passionate adults dedicated to the growth of the young people that make up the nearly 100 member cast each year. These adults volunteer and dedicate their time and expertise to building successful young adults and creating an environment that provides these students/ members every opportunity to succeed and compete. Many of the adults now involved in the administration and instructional staff are alumni of the organization and they have chosen to return to give back because of the experiences they once had as performers. In addition to the work of the Board of Directors and Staff, Matrix Performing Arts is endorsed by a number of manufacturers in the percussion and pageantry markets that provide products (instruments, costumes, etc.) and support each year to each of the performing ensembles.

In addition to the three primary performing ensembles, Matrix World, Matrix Open, and M3, Matrix Performing Arts also offers educational clinics each year focusing on building skills and experience for young percussionists within the region. Matrix Performing Arts also creates specialized ensembles for educational outreach and entertainment opportunities. The largest of these ventures fall under the Matrix International umbrella which are ensembles specifically created for performances and educational outreach opportunities abroad. Through the support from our corporate endorsers and organizations abroad, Matrix International has traveled abroad to perform and educate three separate times; twice to Belgium and France in 2008 and 2012, and most recently to Taiwan in 2017.

Matrix Performing Arts continues to be dedicated to our mission to foster the artistic, intellectual, and personal growth of young adults through the education and performance of visual art and music.
